Broaden your horizons!

Now that President GW Bush is no longer in power, it’s refreshing to discover a more balanced account of the man’s record in office which has been very much decried, one-sided and overall negative thanks to the influence of certain media. To all the happy ‘shoe-throwers’ out there, here is some information for you to digest that will certainly make you realize that you do not have the monopole of thought when it comes to President Bush. Learn and realize that Bush does not only equal ‘war in Iraq’ - it’s too easy to choose the arguments that favour your thinking and ignore the rest just to make a point. So here are some facts:

1) President Bush has designated nearly 520,000 square kilometres of the Pacific Ocean as conservation areas, making him the leader who has protected more of the world’s ocean than any other. The protected areas include pristine coral reefs, rare marine species and the Mariana Trench, the deepest place on Earth’ (source: Geographical March 2009 issue, the official magazine of The Royal Geographical Society, UK).

2) He Pumped $18bn into fighting HIV/Aids, much of it in Africa (which of the world leaders have pledged or done more?).

3) He backed cancelling $34bn worth of debt for 27 African states.

4) He launched an initiative that has halved Malaria in 15 African countries. (Source: BBC World News online, 16th January 2009) According to Bob Geldof (the infamous rock singer turned aid activist) who is hardly a warmonger, President Bush ‘saved millions of lives’. All the above can be verified and is on records.

Some perspectives that will, I hope, stir some thoughts in people’s minds.

Broaden your horizons!
